Antarctica Lesson 0 - Antarctica In the News
Step 1- Click on the link below to access the article and then read it aloud with your table partner. Stop periodically to discuss each major section and then continue reading. Move on to Step 2 when you have finished.
Step 2 - Each person in the group will need to write their own answers. Write the title of the assignment on the top line and then underline it (just as it appears above). Then, skip one line and write the title of the article. On the next line down write the author of the article. Finally, on the next line, write the date that the article was published.
Step 3- Work with your table partner to identify the five most important sentences in the article. Next, list those sentences using bullet statements. Remember to use quotation marks at the beginning and end of every sentence.
Step 4- Write a summary (of at least six sentences) of the article in your own words (no quotes). Don't forget to finish your summary with a strong concluding sentence. Hand in your completed assignment by placing it in the class basket.
Note- You should refer to the article in the first sentence of your summary. The proper way to indicate a news article title in a paragraph is to use quotation marks. Example - "Denman Glacier: Deepest point on land found in Antarctica"
