Examples of Student Answers
What funny story does Tata tell his family on page 59? Describe using at least one quote and four other sentences in your own words. *
This question is worth two points- your answer must be more robust than a one point answer.
#1 "He left me behind" The father was talking about his hard work that he did and when he was almost finished his horse left him.
#2 Tata was given the job of harnessing the horse to the wagon, despite having no experience with horses. He worked with the horse, which he described as "A sympathetic animal, he stood perfectly still." Once he had harnessed the horse, he went on the wagon and told the horse to move.
The wagon, with Tata sitting on it, was left behind as the horse obeyed and moved forward. The harness hadn't been properly attached, and so the horse ended up just leaving Tata on his own.
#3 Tata tells his family the story of what he was doing at work. He was supposed to strap the horse to a gypsum-filled wagon and ride it to a nearby truck. So he harnessed the horse even though he made it 10 times as slow as it should have been. Then he put the gypsum in the wagon. He eventually went in the wagon after everything was packed and told the horse "Giddyup" . Tata then states "The horse, being an obedient horse, obeyed the command and trotted off. There was only one thing wrong, a detail. He left me behind." So the horse kept trotting ahead without him.
